MOUNT RAINIER

Mt Rainier is an active stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) in Pierce County, Washington, located 54 miles southeast of Seattle. It towers over the Cascade Range as the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and Cascade Volcanic Arc at 14,411 feet.

PACKWOOD

The name Packwood, used for the town, a mountain pass, and a lake, honors William Packwood, a Virginian pioneer and explorer of Oregon and Washington.

It is located between Mount Rainier National Park to the north and Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument to the south with the Gifford Pinchot National Forest as a buffer in all directions.

WHITE PASS SKI AREA

White Pass Ski Area, located at the summit, opened in December 1955. Champion skiing twins Phil and Steve Mahre (and their seven siblings) grew up on White Pass, where their father Dave Mahre was the mountain manager for the ski area. White Pass is also the home mountain of professional snowboarder Marc Frank Montoya, owner of The Block hotels.

MOUNT ST. HELENS

Mount St. Helens which is an active stratovolcano is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980. This volcano is well known for its ash explosions and pyroclastic flows.
